The Mirage has an almost frictionless surface
with a hard but very dead (slow) sponge. This makes it real easy to
return serves short and wherever you want, as spin has virtually no
effect on it at all, and the slow sponge takes all the pace out of the
ball. Spin reversal on passive
blocks is fairly low, as with most anti-spin rubbers, but if you play an
active chop (or chop-block close in) you can return good backspin.
It is not as deceptive as many long
pimple rubbers, but it's much easier to control.
Suitable for those that focus on good
placement, variation in pace of the ball (and some variation in spin),
to either draw an error from opponents, or setup for an attacking shot
using the other side of the bat. Also suitable for those that have
trouble reading spin, especially from serves, where this rubber allows
you to return the ball much more easily with good placement. |
