Table tennis rackets, choosing a blade and rubbers

Now that you've decided to choose a custom racket, there are 2 pieces of equipment to decide on; the blade and the rubbers. This is an easy to follow, informative section designed for you the player as a helpful guide:

Choosing a BLADE – which is the best table tennis blade for you?
It's real important to analyse you game a little first. Perhaps you can play a few matches, and let a friend make some notes on how often you play the different type of strokes, and where you win or lose the points. This will help you decide whether you need a mostly control, spin or speed oriented blade. Note that most people tend to identify their best shot as their most important one. However when they analyse their game, they may realise they rarely ever get the opportunity to play that shot! So it's important to think about all aspects of you game. Note also that the choice of rubber will make the biggest impact on how the bat plays.

Choosing a RUBBER – which ones are right for you?

Again use the same analysis to determine the type of rubber you require. When you've already mastered the basics you may well have developed a certain style of play, and may well have different requirement for backhand and forehand. Notes on the back of rubber packet or company information is often not that useful or accurate, so read as many reviews on the rubbers you're interested in as possible, to help you make a decision.

Note that there is no perfect rubber out there, it's all about compromises. As your game develops you may well require a different rubber to complement your new style. Have a go with friends bats and rubber to see how you like them, that's the cheapest way to get a real feel of what it's like. No description or review can describe how YOU will experience the rubber.
